According to reports, a young girl was forced to marry with a stray dog as part of a tribal ritual designed to ward off an evil spell.
The 18-year-old girl, Mangli Munda belonging to a remote village in the eastern Indian state of Jharkhand has taken the stray dog as her husband and will keep her until her evil is gone.
She married with the dog after a local guru convinced her parents she was under an evil spell and that marrying a man would only bring destruction to the family and community.
Mangli has said she was not happy to wed a dog but she has taken decision as her marriage with the stray dog will help change her fortunes.
“I am marrying a dog because the village elders believe that my evil spell will be passed on to the dog,” Mangli quoted in a report by Barcroft media said.
She also added, “After that is done, the man I will marry will have a long life.”
The wedding ceremony was attended by around 70 members of Munda’s village and family, treating the dog as they would a man and the locals dancing alongside him to traditional drumming.
Munda’s father, Sri Amnmunda told Barcroft, “We had to make sure that the evil spell is destroyed. And marrying a dog is the only way to get rid of the bad luck.”
The girl will have to raise the stray dog in the next few months but luckily the marriage will not truly affect her love life.
According to village customs, Munda is free to marry again without having to go through the hassle of a doggy divorce.
That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard of but then foreigners and their strange belief systems I hope the girl keeps the dog as a pet and doesn’t wish ill will towards it either
