As Taliban offensive gets closer to suburbs of Kandahar city, some 50 diplomats and security personnel evacuated in Indian Air Force aircraft from Indian consulate based in the city.

The consulate is now temporarily shut and all the diplomats, security personnel and staff have been flown to New Dehli.

As per reports, the Taliban fighters toppled surrounding districts of Kandahar city and entered the city but Afghan government has not commented on the issue yet.

The vacation which took place yesterday, comes only five days after Indian embassy based in Kabul in a statement said that they have no plan to shut embassy or consulates in northern Mazar-e-sharif city or southern Kandahar. The press release had read that they will closely track security in the cities and will take all necessary steps to ensure the safety and security of Indian officials.

The Indian nationals from Kandahar are believed to be evacuated as thousands of Lashkar-e-Taiba associates joined the Taliban fighters and commenced their intensified clashes mainly in southern Afghanistan.

Some regional countries including India had temporarily closed their consulates in northern Mazar-e-sharif city and the diplomats had flown to Kabul to consult their respective ambassadors about further measures.
