The Indian government on Sunday, March 5, 2022, announced that they will send a third shipment of wheat comprised of 8,000 tonnes to Afghanistan by the end of this month.
The carriage is carried out in a bid to help millions of vulnerable Afghans facing dire famine after the Taliban recaptured power in August last year.
Likewise the previous two tranches of wheat, the third one is also expected to come to Afghanistan through Pakistan’s Wagah port.
In total, India plans to donate to Afghanistan 50,000 tonnes of food grains that are expected to be distributed by the World Food Program.
Since the United States has frozen Afghanistan’s reserves and the country is going through the worst situation of lack of cash, the Taliban-led administration uses wheat as payments for laborers.
