India will likely host Afghanistan for a three-match ODI series after the World Test Championship Final in June.

The Afghanistan tour, not included in the Future Tours Programme, will give India some playing experience and the chance to determine the best possible lineups before the home World Cup.

This series will debut on June 16, five days after the World Television Championship Final. A semi-finalist in the last competition, India will put their best effort forward to win the championship when India and Australia square off in the WTC Final on June 7 at The Oval in London.

The series will provide the Men in Blue some much-needed practice, and Rahul Dravid and the Indian captain will have a couple more chances to try out different lineups before the World Cup later in the year.

India will host the 2023 World Cup, which will likely start on October 5.

In March, the Afghanistan team registered a significant win by 6 wickets over Pakistan.  This was the first time Afghanistan defeated Pakistan, the runner-up of the T20 World Cup 2022.
