The Independent Election Commission (IEC) Chief Gula Jan Abdul Badi Sayad says the commission will extend the voting time in some polling stations that remain closed until 1pm today.

Speaking during a press conference, Sayad admitted that issues persist in some polling stations as some of them have still remain shut while the election staff have failed to show up in certain polling stations.

Sayad further added that the voting would be extended in polling stations to 8pm tonight in the polling stations that started operations late.

He also added that the other polling stations which could not start operations until 1pm today would reopen on Sunday for the voters.

The IEC Chief also admitted that the commission has received reports suggesting that the election staff have issues to operate the biometric systems although the staff had received training.
