The Afghan national team secured their first-ever victory against the formidable England team with a 69-run margin in their third 2023 Cricket World Cup match. This match took place in New Delhi, the capital of India.

England’s national team won the toss and chose to bowl first. After batting first, Afghanistan scored 284 runs after losing all their players in the last over. They set a target of 285 runs for England.

During Afghanistan’s bowling innings in the first half of the match, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Afghanistan’s best player, excelled by taking 80 wickets from 57 balls. Following him, Ikram Ali Khil had a good day with 58 wickets.

Among England’s bowlers, Adil Rashid was the standout player with three wickets. However, England, losing all their players in the 41st over, could only muster 215 runs and fell short of the set target.

In Afghanistan’s bowling innings in the second half of the match, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Rashid Khan Arman shone brilliantly as they managed to dismiss three English players each from the game.

This marks Afghanistan’s first victory in the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup, achieved against the reigning world champions.
