Thursday, November 10, 2011 – US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has vowed to continue supporting Afghan women, ensuring Afghan women’s right and improving the living condition of Afghan women in Afghanistan.
While speaking during an interview with the Public Broadcasting Service Television in the United States Hillary Clinton insisted that she supports to ensure women’s rights in Afghanistan and emphasized that she would prevent from any action that would endanger the achievements towards women’s rights in this country.
US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton following her interview further added, this is our responsibility to become confident that the US efforts to bring peace and stability in Afghanistan will not affect the achievements of Afghan women.
This comes as there are growing concerns regarding the women’s rights to be violated in Afghanistan beyond 2014, when all the NATO-led international forces will leave the country.
In the meantime, an international non-governmental organization Oxfam following a report last month stated that the Afghan women have had numerous achievements in Education sector during the past ten years.
The report by Oxfam also said, Afghan women have been actively involved in politics sector and Law sectors.
Hillary Clinton warned that achievements by Afghan women are threatened if the country goes to a crisis and face major issues.
Meanwhile another international non-governmental organization ACTION AID following a report stated, around 72% Afghan women in Afghanistan believe that there have been positive changes and there have been improvements in their lives as compared to the Taliban regime.
Hillary Clinton said, the priorities of the US government regarding the peace talks with the Taliban group are to ensure the women’s rights and minority groups in Afghanistan.
Mrs. Clinton further added, Afghan women’s participation in International conferences and traditional Jirgas would definitely have an impact on this issue.
Hillary Clinton also said, she will struggle to find the way for Afghan women to participate in such sessions.
