According to local authorities in southern Helmand province of Afghanistan, Taliban militants ambushed the convoy of deputy provincial governor on Wednesday leaving head of the high peace council dead.
A local security official speaking on the condition of anonymity said the incident took place around 11am local time while deputy provincial governor Massoud Bakhtawar and head of the high peace council Malem Shahwali were on their way towards the Greshk district.
The source further added, Taliban militants ambushed the vehicles of Mr. Bakhtawar and Malem Shahwali in Yakhchal area.
He said provincial council chief Malem Shahwali was killed along with a number of his security guards following the attack, and a number of others were injured.
In the meantime deputy provincial governor spokesman denied the reports and said head of the high peace council was killed following a roadside bomb blast.
He said Malem Shahwali was killed along with his two security guards following the blasts.
Taliban militants group yet to comment regarding the incident.
