A suicide bomber detonated a Vehicle-borne Improvised Explosive Device (VIED) in West of Kabul city earlier today.

The explosion took place in the vicinity of the 6th the police district of the city in Kote Sangi area.

According to the officials, the explosion killed 18 people and wounded more than 100 others, mostly civilians.

Officials in the Ministry of Public Health had earlier said the rescue workers have shifted 95 wounded people to hospitals.

However, unconfirmed reports indicate the explosion has killed more than 40 people and wounded over 100 others, mostly civilians.

The Taliban group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
