Heavy explosion reported in Maidan Wardak province

A heavy explosion rocked central Maidan Wardak province of Afghanistan early Friday morning. The incident took place near the provincial governor compound.

Provincial governor spokesman Shahidullah Shahid said at least 40 people were injured and several others were feared to be killed following the blast.

He said the exact number of casualties is not known yet and the Afghan security forces have cordoned off the area.

The incident took place around 8:30 am in Maidan Shahr area after explosives packed in vehicle went off in the area.

No group including the Taliban militants has so far claimed responsibility behind the incident.
