According to local authorities in central Maidan Wardak province of Afghanistan, a number of armed militants attacked Afghan security forces in this province triggering heavy clashes.
A local official speaking on the condition of anonymity said armed militants ambushed Afghan security forces in Ismail Khel village at Jalrez district early Tuesday morning.
The source further added Afghan security forces conducted an operation in the area to arrest a local Taliban commander in Ismail Khel area at Jalrez district.
The militants attacked Afghan security forces from residential houses and gardens, the official said.
In the meantime provincial governor Mohammd Halim Fedaye said at least 15 militants were killed during the clashes that started early Tuesday morning in Jalrez district.
Mr. Fedaye further added the operations were conducted by Afghan police, Afghan army and Afghan intelligence forces and the clashes are still continuing in the area.
Jalrez district is one of the relatively unsafe area in central Maidan Wardak province where armed militants are actively operating and carrying out insurgency activities.
A number of Afghan students were also kidnapped and murdered in this district on Monday night while they were on their way from Bamiyan province to capital Kabul.
