Hawa Alam Nuristani has been appointed as the new chief of Independent Election Commission of Afghanistan after receiving 4 votes during a voting session on Tuesday.
Nuristani has previously served as representative of Nuristan in the Lower House of Parliament, member of parliamentary commission for human rights and member of parliamentary commission for access to information.
Mawlana Mohammad Abdullah was the other member of Independent Election Commission who was competing in today’s voting session to secure the seat as chief of the electoral commission but he managed to obtain 3 votes only.
In the meantime, Esmatullah Mal was elected as deputy chief of Independent Election Commission while Musafir Qoqandi was elected as chief of the secretariat of Independent Election Commission.
Syed Esmatullah Mal, Mawlana Mohammad Obaidullah, Aurangzeb, Mohammad Hanif Danishyar, Musafir Qoqandi, Hawa Alam Nuristani, and Rahima Zarifi were on Monday sworn in as new members of the Independent Election Commission.
Habib Ur Rahman Nang was sworn in as the secretariat Chief of the Independent Election Commission.
The election commissioners were elected by 18 presidential candidates during a voting session which was organized on Friday.
