During a visit to New Delhi, Afghan Foreign Minister Mohammad Hanif Atmar spoke with his Indian counterpart Jaishankar about the new US peace proposal.
According to media reports, the Afghan Foreign Minister, who visited India yesterday, met with the Indian Foreign Minister on Monday evening.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed a new US proposal, bilateral cooperation, regional connectivity, as well as trade-related issues.
The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi was quoted by the Indian express saying that “India’s long-term commitment towards making Afghanistan a united, peaceful and prosperous constitutional democracy respecting the will of its people”.
This comes as U.S defense Secretary Lloyd Austin in a call with Pakistan’s Army Chief Gen. Qamar Bajwa on Sunday reiterated United States’ commitment to maintaining a strong bilateral defense relationship with Pakistan.
He has also thanked the country’s continued support for the Afghan peace process, a pentagon statement read.
Austin stressed on developing further cooperation between the United States and Pakistan in areas of common interest.
Earlier, Austin in an announced visit to Kabul met with President Ashraf Ghani and expressed his concerns over the increased level of violence and the need for violence reduction.
