Unknown gunmen murdered seven workers at a brick factory in the Sorkhrod district of eastern Nangarhar province on Wednesday night.

The provincial police chief, Jumman Gul Himmat told the media, that the victims were residents of Bamiyan.

According to police, four people suspected of the crime were arrested, photos of the victims show their hands had been bound before being shot to death.

An investigation is ongoing to find out the motive behind the attack, police said.

So far, no group or individual claimed responsibility for killing the factory workers.

This comes as 36 people were wounded including three military personnel after clashes broke between security forces and militias affiliated with a local strongman “Habibullah Ghoryani on Wednesday in Herat’s Jabriel area.

The firefight broke when Afghan security forces tried to arrest Ghoryani, who is accused of murder and intimidation.

Herat’s health officials told the media that two of the injured individual are in critical condition.
