Pakistani media outlets have reported that an attack by unidentified armed individuals on a passenger bus in the northern region of the country has resulted in at least 34 fatalities and numerous injuries.

Reports indicate that on Saturday, unidentified armed individuals opened fire on a bus, resulting in at least eight passengers killed and 26 others wounded in the northern region of Pakistan.

Meanwhile, Al Jazeera News Agency has also reported the confirmation of the identities of two police officers among the casualties.

So far, no group has claimed responsibility for this deadly attack in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of northern Pakistan. Al Jazeera, citing Arif Ahmed, the deputy commissioner of the region, has reported that this “cowardly act” targeted a bus travelling towards the city of Rawalpindi on the Karakoram Highway, connecting Pakistan to China.

According to him, following the attack, the bus driver lost control and collided with an oncoming truck. It is said that the attackers were riding motorcycles and firing towards the passenger bus before fleeing the scene.

Previous attacks in this region have been attributed to the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan or TTP, an illegal and militant group.

In a recent statement, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry accused the Taliban administration in Afghanistan of not taking adequate action against the presence of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) on Afghan soil.

The Taliban, in response, has denied these allegations, asserting their commitment to preventing any individuals or groups from using Afghanistan as a base for launching attacks against neighbouring countries.
