The Chief Executive of the Government of National Unity Abdullah Abdullah has said the leadership of the government supports the utilization of biometrics system in the upcoming elections.

The Office of the Chief Executive in a statement said Chief Executive Abdullah made the remarks during a meeting with the Secretary of the United Nations António Guterres.

The statement further added that Mr. Guterres welcomed Chief Executive Abdullah for participating in the UN General Assembly and said peace and stability in Afghanistan remains among the top ambitions of the United Nations.

In his turn, Abdullah said a transparent and credible election could help with the political stability in Afghanistan.

He also presented a broad picture regarding the political and security situation of Afghanistan to the UN Secretary General.

Abdullah further added that the government of national unity is committed to organize transparent and credible elections and supports the utilization of biometrics system to ensure the transparency of the elections.

In the meantime, Abdullah informed the UN Secretary General regarding Afghanistan’s readiness for the participation in Geneva Summit.

In regards to the ongoing efforts to eliminate the menace of terrorism, Abdullah said no major changes have been witnessed in the politics of Pakistan as he emphasized that a genuine cooperation between the two countries is the only way to take the region out of the ongoing issues.

The UN Secretary General reaffirmed support to Afghanistan and said the main goal of the United Nations is to help Afghanistan stand on its feet and to help in bringing peace and stability in the country.
