Government condemns raid on Loya Jirga hall and Karzai’s poster

karzai poster removedThe government of Afghanistan strongly condemned armed assault on Loya Jirga hall late Tuesday night by a number of rioters who tore down President Hamid Karzai’s poster.

The Office of Administrative Affairs and Council of Ministers Secretariat, following a statement, said Wednesday that disrespectful act against President Karzai’s poster is desecration to the government of Afghanistan.

The statement further added that President Hamid Karzai’s poster was torn down ahead of a gathering by a presidential candidate’s team in a disrespectful manner which was reinstalled later.

However, a number of the rioters armed with light and heavy weapons raided the Loya Jirga hall late Tuesday night and once again tore down President Karzai’s poster, the statement added.

Office of Administrative Affairs and Council of Ministers Secretariat said the act was a breach of law and strongly condemned it.

The ministry of interior affairs and national directorate of security (NDS) were urged to take actions against those who were involved behind the attack and called on presidential candidates to invite their supporters for peace and prevent any act that leads to violence and spread tension.

Dr. Abdullah Abdullah who appeared in a gathering to announce his stance against the preliminary vote results for runoff election, also expressed regrets for the removal of president Karzai’s poster and said it was not his intention.
