The Afghan government has approved the contracts for 86 new projects having a total value of around 7.44 billion Afghanis.

The Office of the President, ARG Palace, said the contracts were approved during the last meeting of the National Procurement Commission chaired by President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani late on Monday.

A statement by ARG Palace states that the meeting reviewed contracts for 73 projects and approved 86 contracts for the execution.

The contracts approved during the meeting include road construction project for Neli city in Daikundi, water distribution network project to be implemented by ministry of rural rehabilitation in Bangi and Eshkamesh districts of Takhar, and construction of roadside streams and construction of 12.38km of road by Kabul Municipality in Dashti Barchi area of Kabul.

Other contracts approved during the meeting include intra-government contract for the purchase of 10GB internet from Uzbek Telecom, renting of a compound for the ministry of justice, renovation work of the compounds of Sitara and Abdulhadi high schools and compounds belonging to the Independent Directorate of Local Governance, and renovation work of the office and house of the former president Hamid Karzai by the Ministry of Urban Development Housing.

According to ARG Palace, some of the other major contracts approved during the meeting include consulting services project for the legal services of the ministry of finance, procurement of meat for the 8th sector of the Ministry of Interior, and procurement of 13 food items for the 2nd and 3rd units of the national police.

The contracts for procurement of wood for the ministry of interior and food items for the ministry of defense were also approved during the meeting.
