President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani is expected to visit northeastern Badakhshan province of Afghanistan, a week after 23 Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers were slaughtered following an attack by the anti-government armed militants.
The incident took place early on Friday morning in Jurm district after the militants launched coordinated attacks on a number of check posts belonging to the Afghan armed forces.
According to the sources within the government, President Ghani is expected to visit Badakhshan province on Saturday.
Gen. Zahir Azimi, spokesman for the Ministry of Defense (MoD), confirmed that 33 soldiers of the Afghan National Army (ANA) were martyred, wounded or kidnapped in the attack.
However, latest list of the martyred soldiers shows that 23 soldiers lost their lives in the deadly attack with the military officials saying at least eight of the soldiers were beheaded.
A commission was also formed by the Afghan government to investigate the deadly attack.
The Interior Minister Noor-ul-haq Ulomi also visited Badakhshan province on Thursday to assess the deteriorating security situation.
