Ghani rules out parallel government The leading presidential candidate in the second round of election, Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai ruled out the formation of a parallel government.

Ghani appeared in the first press conference following the announcement of the preliminary vote results for the runoff presidential election.

He said his team favours the formation of a government that will ensure the prosperity and unity of the country.

Ghani also claimed that his team’s votes were found more cleaner than Dr. Abdullah’s following the audit and recount of votes in 1930 polling stations.

He called on independent electoral complaints commission to inspect votes from 7,100 polling stations and insisted that any claim of fraud needs to be subjected to scrutiny.

This comes as prominent Afghan politician and governor of northern Balkh province Gen. Atta Mohammad Noor said the announcement of the vote results without cleaning of fraudulent votes has paved the way for the announcement of a parallel government.

The US Secretary of State John Kerry also expressed grave concern regarding the suggestion of a parallel government in Afghanistan.

Kerry warned that any action to seize power illegally in Afghanistan would lead to the end of US financial and security support to Afghanistan.
