Ghani approves recommendation for the improvement of Laghman grading

President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has approved the recommendation to improve the grading of Laghman province from third grade to second grade.

The Office of the President, ARG Palace, said President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani approved the recommendation during a visit to Mehtarlam city, the provincial capital of Laghman on Monday evening.

According to a statement released by ARG Palace, President Ghani also laid the foundation for the construction of a 100-bed hospital and inaugurated the new provincial compound.

The statement further added that President Ghani also inaugurated 51 projects which have been completed with a total cost of 763 million Afghanis.

He also inaugurated the construction of 47 new projects which will cost around 1.271 billion Afghanis, ARG Palace said.

The recommendation to upgrade Laghman to second grade province was shared during a meeting by provincial council member Gulzar Sangarwal, provincila Ulema Council Chief Mawlavi Obaidullah Alkozai, and Amanullah Torjan representing the tribal elders.

They also requested that a representative should be elected in the Afghan senate from Laghman province, increase the administrative units, construct the Kala Gosh dam, expansion of road between Mehtarlam and Surkhakan, improvement of education, and establishment of medical faculty in Laghman University.

In his turn, President Ghani said he agrees with the upgrade of Laghman to second grade province and instructed the Independent Directorate of Local Governance to take necessary actions to improve the grading of the province and consider all the required credits a second grade province needs.
