President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has appointed the former interior minister and presidential hopeful Mohammad Omar Daudzai as his senior adviser in reconciliation affairs.

According to a presidential decree released late on Sunday,Mohammad Omar Daudzai has been appointed as senior presidential adviser to consult on regional consensus in respect of reconciliation process.

The decree further added that Mr. Daudzai has been appointed in accordance with the clause 64 and item 13 of the constitution of Afghanistan.

Mr. Daudzai will also attend the future meetings of the National Security Council, the presidential decree added.

This comes reports emerged earlier today suggested that negotiations are underway to appointed Mr. Daudzai as the secretariat chief of the Afghanistan High Peace Council.

In the meantime, reports indicate that Mr. Daudzai has given up his nomination in the upcoming presidential elections by assuming charge as senior presidential adviser.
