Daneshi’s appointment was confirmed by the Presidential Palace earlier tonight.
His appointment was followed three days after the Taliban militants launched coordinated attack on the provincial capital of Kunduz province.
The Taliban militants are still in control of Kunduz city as fighting is underway in parts of the city which are still in control of the Afghan security forces, including the airport.
This comes as reports emerged late on Tuesday suggesting the former governor of Kunduz province Mohammad Omar Safi has left the country after the fall of Kunduz city.
The NATO special forces have also been deployed in the area to support the Afghan national security forces in retaking the control of the city, according to Western officials, the forces are comprised of US, British and German troops.
The officials further added at least three airstrikes have been carried out by the US military since Tuesday.
