After weeks of reluctance, Germany has agreed to send Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has agreed to supply Ukraine with Leopard 2 battle tanks.
The decision comes after weeks of pressure by the allies on Berlin to provide Kyiv with heavier weapons to fight Russian troops. The statement read that Germany would initially provide 14 Leopard 2 tanks from its own inventory.
The move by Germany opens the door for other nations, including Poland, Spain, Finland, and Norway, to provide some of their Leopard tanks to Ukraine, helping to deliver some of the hundreds of tanks that Ukraine says it requires.
“This decision follows our well-known line of supporting Ukraine to the best of our ability. We are acting in a closely coordinated manner internationally,” Scholz said.
According to the statement, Germany will train the Ukrainian forces in Germany shortly and supply logistics and ammunition to the Ukrainian troops.
The Leopard 2 battle tanks and other promised logistics and ammunition to the Ukrainian forces will consider game changers on the battlefield.
However, Earlier the Kremlin spokesperson said the tank would “burn like all the rest.”
