Markus Potzel, Germany’s special envoy to Afghanistan, met with Taliban representatives in Qatar and expressed optimism about the ongoing peace talks.

A spokesman for the Taliban’s political office, Naeem Wardak tweeted that German special envoy to Afghanistan Markus Potzel had met with a Taliban delegation led by Mullah Abdul Haq Wasiq.

According to Naeem, the two sides discussed in detail the ongoing peace process in Afghanistan and the German special envoy praised the Taliban’s position that they have chosen the path of peace instead of war.

It is worth mentioning that peace talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban started in Doha about a month ago, but so far the contact groups of the delegations have not been able to agree on the modalities.
