An Afghan refugee woman allegedly murdered three male family members in Massachusetts, a northeastern state of the United States, before turning the gun on herself. Over 20 rounds were fired in less than 3 minutes, according to reports in US local media that cited locals.

According to the local authorities, this 31-year-old Afghan woman called Hosay Sharifi shot her father, her sister’s husband, and that man’s father before taking her own life on Tuesday, August 23.

US police officials told the media that on Tuesday in Lynn, Massachusetts, three men and a woman died in a triple murder-suicide that took place at three distinct scenes.

The woman reportedly killed three male family members—aged 34, 66, and another in a car outside the victim’s home—before shooting herself. Her body was later discovered in a car outside a supermarket parking lot.

Investigators reportedly suspect Sharifi committed the murders in to free her sister from an allegedly violent and abusive marriage in which her husband subjected her to physical and sexual abuse for 14 years.

Just before the murders, Sharifi wrote in a Facebook post that “My parents & his parents knew all these years but have not really done much but say ‘work it out’ ‘what will people say if you separate’ or even victim blaming,” saying that her father did not do anything about it.

The police investigations are still underway, as the media reported that the police urged that while public safety officials are still conducting their inquiries, the public respect the family’s right to privacy at this time.
