Local officials of the northern Samangan province confirmed that unidentified gunmen have shot dead five miners of a coal mine in the province.

The state-run Bakhtar News Agency has quoted the local Taliban officials saying the incident took place on Tuesday afternoon in the Kotal Regi area of the Dara-e-Sof district of the province bordering Balkh province.

As per the report of Bakhtar News Agency, the miners were initially robbed and were then shot at.

Victims of the incident are all said to be Hazara who is the original resident of the district.

No group has claimed responsibility for the killing yet.

Recent incidents across Afghanistan that resulted in the killings of tens of civilians have overshadowed the Taliban’s ability to secure the country.
