Monday, August 22, 2011 – Officials in Free and Fair Election Foundation of Afghanistan (FEFA) on Monday expressed concerns over the Afghan parliamentary election issues and warned, the government would go paralysed if the decision of IEC is not put in place.

Officials in Free and Fair Election Foundation of Afghanistan urged on the implementation of the decision by Independent Election Commission of Afghanistan to drag off the country out of the ongoing crisis, despite calling the final decision of IEC regarding the disqualification of nine Afghan parliament members and introducing new winners, as unconstitutional.

Meanwhile, a former member of electoral complaint commission said that it’s totally against the electoral laws to bring changes in the final results that announced by the IEC.

Officials in Free and Fair Election Foundation of Afghanistan said, implementation of the decision made by the IEC would bring an end to tensions between different branches of the government.

The officials also warned that leaving the decision unimplemented would follow worse consequences.

Jandad Spinghar, Executive Director of FEFA said, “If this is not implemented the crisis will continue and it could paralyse all systems of the government. This is not the legal way to address the issue, but we have no choice and we should bring and end to the crisis in a way and we should all help implement the decision,”

In the meantime, a former member of electoral complaints commission, Ahmad Zeyar Rafat said, the final decision of the IEC would further plunge the country into crisis.

Mr. Rafat further added, “IEC’s final decision has ignored the electoral laws. Under the law no institution, even the IEC itself has the right to intervene in issues related to elections,”

Meanwhile, a number of legal analysts also urged on the importance of the decision that should be implemented to bring an end to increasing crisis in the country.

Rohullah Qarizada, Head of the Independent Union of advocates said, “This is the best time that we should all welcome the decision of the IEC and put an end to tensions. This is the only way out; otherwise, the crisis would go bigger and lead to death and imprisonment of people.”

This comes authorities in Independent Election Commission announced its final decision and unseated nine setting lawmakers over charges of fraud in election an inserted nine protesting candidates into the Afghan House of Representatives.
