Bayern Munich complete a perfect Champions League group stage record as Barcelona are eliminated.
For the first time in over two decades, Barcelona has suffered a Champions League group-stage knockout.
Benfica’s victory over Dynamo Kyiv means that the Blaugrana will have to settle for the Europa League after the new year.
The 3-0 defeats against Bayern and Benfica earlier in the group stage gave Barcelona an uphill challenge, which the many injuries they have suffered compounded.
Bayern was better, superior,” Xavi said. “This is the harsh reality we have to face. I have told players that this is a turning point. Today a new era begins and we have to take Barca where it deserves which is not the Europa League.
Thomas Muller, Leroy Sane, and Jamal Musiala scored Bayern’s winning goals as Manuel Neuer kept another Clean-Sheet.
