Afghan house speaker’s father and brother die in Kunduz blast

Explosion in Kunduz1A heavy explosion rocked northern Kunduz province of Afghanistan on Wednesday evening. The blast took place in Imam Saib district.

Initial reports confirm death of Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi’s father in a suicide attack during Buzkashi game in Imam Sahib district of Kunduz province.

Spokesman for Kunduz governor Enayatullah Khaliq confirming the report said the incident took place in Imam Saib district around 5pm local time, killing Abdul Qayoum Ibrahimi, district police chief and brother of Afghan house speaker, Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi along with Haji Shir Khan father of Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi.

He said Abdul Qayoum Ibrahimi’s son together with one of his bodyguard was also killed following the blast and five others were injured.

Kunduz is among the relatively peaceful region in northern Afghanistan however militants have recently increased their activities in a number of its districts.

In the meantime provincial governor spokesman said the suicide bomber detonated his explosives near security chief for Iamam Saib.

On the other hand unconfirmed reports suggest at least 20 people have been killed and around 35 others have been injured but the report has not been independently confirmed by local officials so far.
