Member of parliament, Fatima Aziz who represented Kunduz province, passed away due to cancer at the age of 47, the head of the parliament’s secretariat Abdul Qadir Zazai told media on Friday.

According to reports she battled cancer and was under treatment in Swiss.

She represented Kunduz province in Wolesi Jirga (lower house), from 2005 to 2021.

Fatema Aziz had reportedly served as a surgeon and an Afghan physician, she was born the northern province of Kunduz in 1973.

She worked as a medical doctor for 12 years before becoming a lawmaker, she was among the first women to be elected to the parliament of Afghanistan following the Taliban rule.
