Users across the United States said they were unable to post comments, access account settings, refresh news feeds, or navigate portions of Facebook and Instagram. According to outage-monitoring data cited by the Connecticut Insider, reports of service problems began rising sharply shortly before 10 a.m. Eastern Time.
The disruption quickly became a topic of discussion across social media and online forums, where users sought confirmation that the issues were not isolated to their own accounts. Many reported receiving error messages when attempting to comment on posts, while others said settings pages failed to load or appeared inaccessible.
Data from independent monitoring services, including IsDown and NordVPN’s outage tracker, showed a significant increase in user-submitted reports during the morning hours, suggesting the problem affected users across multiple regions, according to the Connecticut Insider.
As the complaints mounted, many users turned to X, Reddit, and other online platforms to share screenshots and discuss the apparent outage. Similar behavior has been observed during previous disruptions involving Meta’s services, including the company’s major global outage in 2021, which left Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp inaccessible for several hours.
Meta had not publicly provided a detailed explanation for the reported issues by late Friday morning. The company also had not immediately confirmed whether the disruption stemmed from a technical failure, server issue, or broader infrastructure problem.
The incident follows a series of technology-service disruptions affecting major platforms in recent months. Reuters reported earlier this year that Facebook experienced a separate outage that affected thousands of users in the United States, while several major technology companies have also faced intermittent service interruptions amid growing dependence on cloud-based infrastructure.
Although some users later reported partial restoration of service, others continued to experience intermittent problems, suggesting the issue had not been fully resolved at the time of publication.
No prominent public figures, celebrities, or Meta executives had publicly commented on the disruption by Friday afternoon. However, user complaints continued to accumulate across social media platforms as many awaited an official statement from the company.
