An explosion ripped through a vehicle of the Elite Police Forces of Pakistan in Lahore leaving at least 9 dead and 26 others wounded, the security officials said.

The incident took place earlier today near Data Darbar, one of the most visited shrines of the country.

A local security official Ashfaq Ahmad Khan had earlier confirmed to local media outlets that three Elite Police Forces officials, a civilian, and a security guard were among those killed.

However, the latest figures indicate that five policemen and three civilians are among those killed.

Another security official Sayed Ghazanfar Shah has told reporters that eight of the people injured in the blast are in critical condition.

No individual or group has so far claimed responsibility for the explosion.
