At least twenty six people were killed or wounded in an explosion triggered by a suicide attack in Kabul city earlier this afternoon.

Deputy spokesman for the Ministry of Interior Nusrat Rahimi said the blast left six dead and at least twenty others wounded.

Interior Ministry spokesman Najib Danish had earlier confirmed a suicide attack has taken place close to Estiqlal High School and preliminary reports indicate at least ten people were killed or wounded in the attack.

The Ministry of Public Health had also said earlier at least three people have been killed and at least eight others have sustained injuries in the attack.

This comes as protests are underway not far from the area where the explosion took place this afternoon.

Hundreds of protesters marched towards Presidential Palace in Kabul late last night demanding President Ghani’s immediate actions regarding the recent wave of violence which struck two districts in Ghazni and another district in Uruzan province, mainly inhabited by Hazaras of Afghanistan.

The protesters have gathered near the road leading towards Presidential Palace and demand President Ghani to issue a decree to suppress the Taliban militants.

No individual or group has so far claimed responsibility behind the incident.
