An explosion has taken place close to the office of the Independent Election Commission in Kabul city.

Preliminary reports indicate the blast has taken place due to a suicide attack and as a result one person has been killed and another one has sustained injuries.

Kabul police spokesman Hashmat confirmed the incident and said a suicide bomber detonated his explosives close to the office of the Independent Election Commission.

He said the incident took place at around 1:15 pm local time as a suicide bomber was looking to get close to the premises of the election commission office.

Stanikzai further added that the suicide bomber was identified by the police and detonated his explosives before the security forces manage to arrest him.

No individual or group has so far claimed responsibility behind the incident.
