Saturday, August 27, 2011 – According to local authorities in northwest Afghanistan, at least four people were killed following an explosion outside a mosque on Friday.
Provincial police spokesman Lal Mohammad Ahmadzai said, the incident took place in Almar district of Faryab province and at least fourteen other people were injured while they were praying in the mosque.
Mr. Ahmadzai further added, the bomb was planted on a motorbike parked in a yard of the mosque.
No group including the Taliban militants have so far claimed responsibility behind the attack.
In a separate incident, a coalition service member was killed following an insurgent attack, NATO-led coalition forces reported.
NATO officials did not disclose further information regarding the nationality of the deceased soldier and the circumstances of the incident.
Friday’s incident raised the number of international forces killed in Afghanistan to four, after three other coalition forces were killed following two separate roadside bomb explosions on Thursday.
According to reports, at least 397 NATO-led international forces have been killed in various incidents across Afghanistan so far this year, including at least 295 Americans.
Meanwhile, the coalition officials said, they are investigating reports that NATO caused civilian casualties in Baraki Barak district of Logar province, south of Kabul.
