Explosion in Nimroz province, 7 killed 1 injured

Nimroz provinceAccording to local authorities in western Nimroz province of Afghanistan at least 8 people were killed or injured following a roadside bomb blast in Zaranj city.

Provincial security chief Gen. Abdul Rahim confirming the report said the incident took place in the 3rd district of Zaranj city on Thursday.

Mr. Rahim further added, at least 2 Afghan security forces and 5 civilians were killed following the blast.

He said an Afghan police officer was also injured following the blast.

Nimroz is among the volatile regions in western Afghanistan where militants are actively operating in its various districts and carry out frequent insurgency acitivities.

A number of bloody incidents have taken place in Nimroz province during the past two months.

Gen. Abdul Rahim said Afghan security forces have launched investigation regarding today’s incident and the findings will be presented soon.

In the meantime local residents in Nimroz province said they were satisfied from the activities of former provincial security chief Haji Mohammad Mosa Rasooli.

They are saying that the security situation during Rasooli’s period was much more better. Haji Mohammad Mosa Rasooli was killed recently following a roadside bomb blast while he was on his way from western Herat province to Nimroz.
