Explosion in Nangarhar leaves 1 dead, 27 others injured

Explosion in NangarharAt least one civilian was killed and 27 others including policemen were injured following an explosion in eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan on Friday.

Local government officials in Nangarhar confirmed the incident took place in Ghani Khel district early Friday morning.

Provincial governor spokesman, Ahmad Zia Abdulzai said the incident took place around 9:00 am local time; however he did not disclose further information regarding the exact number of casualties.

In the meantime, officials in government hospital in Ghani Khel district said at least one person was killed and 27 others who were injured following the blast were taken to the hospital.

No group including the Taliban miliants has so far claimed responsibility behind the incident.

Nangarhar is among the relatively volatile provinces in eastern Afghanistan where anti-government armed militants are active in a number of its districts and often carry out insurgency attacks.
