The Afghan National Defense and Security Forces have foiled militant’s bid to carry out an explosion in Kabul city, the Kabul Security Commandment said.

According to a statement released by the Security Commandment of Kabul, the Afghan forces discovered and defused an improvised explosive device planted in the 9th police district of the city.

The statement further added that the improvised explosive device was planted close to a police check post in Abdul Haq square.

According to Kabul Police Commandment, the improvised explosive device consisted of a mortar shell and a mobile set which was defused by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team of Kabul police.

The anti-government armed militant groups including Taliban have not commented regarding the report so far.

This comes as a suicide bomber targeted a gathering of religious scholars in Kabul city last week which left more than 50 dead and scores wounded.
