The security officials have confirmed that a group of suicide bombers launched a coordinated attack targeting the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology in Kabul city at around noon time today.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Interior Nasrat Rahimi confirmed the incident but added that the nature of explosion has not been ascertained so far.

Rahimi further added that “Today at 11:40 three suicide bombers attacked MCIT post office building taking benefit of a holy shrine. Police has surrounded the area & crises response unit has reached to foil the attack.”

Eyewitnesses in the area are saying that heavy gunfire can be heard from the compound of the ministry of telecommunications and information technology.

In the meantime, security officials are saying that the attack was likely launched by a group of four militants and two of the assailants have been shot dead so far while clearance operations are underway to eliminate the remaining assailants.
