A commander of the anti-government armed militants affiliated with the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group has been arrested in central Bamyan province of Afghanistan.
According to the local government officials, the suspect has been identified as Ibrahim Fakoori and is a former jihadi commander.
The provincial police chief Khudayar Qudsi told reporters that Fakoori was also well know as Shookhak who had links with several terrorist groups.
Qudsi further aded that the detained militants commander was assigned to disrupt an upcoming important event in Bamyan where the province is due to be named as cultural capital of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC).
He said Fakoori was arrested along with a number of militants accompanying him during an operation in Waras district that lasted for at least 72 hours.
According to Qudsi, the group led by Fakoori was receiving around $30,000 on monthly basis from outside the country to finance their activities.
Bamyan is among the relatively peaceful provinces in central Afghanistan where fewer security related incidents have been reported.
However, the security officials recently said the growing instability is threatening Bamyan province which borders some of the most volatile provinces.
