Preliminary results from Tajikistan’s Central Election Commission (CEC) and a referendum in the country show that Emomali Rahmon is far ahead of other candidates in yesterday’s presidential election and has won the election for the fifth time.
The country’s Independent Election Commission (IEC) said that Emomali Rahmon has won the presidential election.
Reports indicate, 4,022,176 people cast their ballots in Sunday’s election.
About 90.92 percent of voters had cast their ballots for Rahmon, who secured another 7-year term to lead Tajikistan.
Emomali Rahmon is in power since 1992, winning four consecutive presidential elections.
In December 2015 further securing his dominance, parliament gave Rahmon the title of Leader of the Nation, which grants him long life immunity from prosecution.
