Monday, August 08, 2011 – According to a statement issued by NATO-led International Security Assistance Forces, a Nato helicopter made a hard landing in eastern Paktia province on Monday morning.
The statement further added, “An International Security Assistance Force helicopter made a hard landing in Paktia province today.”
The statement did not disclose further information regarding the landing but said, “what caused the aircraft to make the hard landing is under investigation, however initial reporting indicates there was no enemy activity in the area at the time of the incident.”
The incident is followed by a separate one in which a military helicopter was shot down in eastern Afghanistan on Friday killing 31 Americans, most of them from the elite Navy Seals unit that killed al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden.
The incident was the deadliest single incident for American forces in the decade-long war.
Meanwhile, US officials said that none of those who died in the crash had participated in the Bin Laden raid, although they were from the same unit that carried out that mission.
