Earthquake of Magnitude 4.7 Strikes Afghanistan’s Fayzabad.

An earthquake with a Richter scale of 4.7 occurred in the Fayzabad, Badakhshan province of Afghanistan on Thursday, according to India’s National Center for Seismology (NCS).

The earthquake’s epicentre was 140 Km northeast of Fayzabad at 22:01:47 PM. This is the fourth earthquake within a week.

“Earthquake of Magnitude: 4.7, Occurred on 09-03-2023, 23:01:47 IST, Lat: 36.57 & Long: 72.30, Depth: 140 Km, Location: 166km ESE of Fayzabad, Afghanistan,” NCS tweeted on Thursday.

Today morning an earthquake of magnitude 4.1 occurred in Faizabad, Badakhshan province, Afghanistan.

Badakhshan province of Afghanistan has recently had several earthquakes, which can be of great concern.

Badakhshan and Takhar are among the provinces of the country which are prone to hazards, particularly earthquakes and landslides.

Two earthquakes of the same magnitude struck Fayzabad in the Badakhshan province last week; earlier, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8 that struck Afghanistan-Tajikistan was followed by an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.0 and another earthquake with a magnitude of 4.6.

The Afghan province of Badakhshan saw two earthquakes in January, and several avalanches occurred in the following month. The province is more vulnerable to calamities than the rest of the country.
