An earthquake of magnitude of 4.3 rocked Badakhshan province of Afghanistan on Thursday, May 25, 2023.

The quake of 4.3 occurred at 10: 00 am local time today with a depth of 26 Km south of Isqashim, Tajikistan, the Indian National for Seismology (NCS) said.

The earthquake epicentre was the Zebak district of Badakhshan province, Afghanistan, with a latitude of 36.49 N and a Longitude of 71—58 E.

No causalities have been reported so far; further details are awaited.

The frequency of earthquakes has increased in the region, particularly in the Badakhshan province of the country.

Earlier on Monday, two earthquakes occurred on the same day, one with a 4.3 and the other with a 4.9 magnitude on the same day.

The second was a massive quake that even the tremors felt in Kabul’s capital, though the epicentre was the Faizabad district of Badakhshan.

Afghanistan is one of the most vulnerable countries in the region to natural disasters, including earthquakes, landslides, flooding and avalanches.

Due to the frequent natural disasters, including earthquakes, which occur in the country, including northeast and northern regions, additional safety measures and precautions steps are required to decrease the severity of the disaster.
