Earthquake of 4.0 Magnitude Jolts Afghanistan’s Badakhshan

An earthquake of magnitude of 4.0 struck 69 Km east of Faizabad, Badakhshan province of Afghanistan, on Monday, May 22, 2023.

The earthquake of 4.0 occurred at 1:51 am local time today with a depth of 10 Km in Faizabad capital city of Badakhshan province, the Indian National for Seismology (NCS) said.

 “Earthquake of Magnitude: 4.0, Occurred on 22-5-2023, 1:52 am local time, Lat: 37.04 & Long: 71.35, Depth: 10Km, Location Faizabad, Badakhshan province, Afghanistan,” The Indian National Center for Seismology (NCS) tweeted.

So far, no casualties have been reported; further details are awaited.

Earlier, an earthquake of a magnitude of 4.3 shook Afghanistan’sAfghanistan’s capital city of Kabul. At 7:14 this morning local time, an earthquake measuring magnitude 4.3 struck Kabul, Afghanistan, at a depth of 66 kilometres. 

“Earthquake of Magnitude: 4.3, Occurred on 14-05-2023, 08:14:29 IST, Lat: 33.34 & Long: 69.94, Depth: 60 Km, Location: 151 km SSE of Kabul, Afghanistan,” the Indian National Center for Seismology (NCS) tweeted.

Afghanistan is particularly susceptible to natural calamities, such as earthquakes, landslides, avalanches, heavy rain, and flooding.

Additional precautions and steps are needed to lessen the severity of the disaster in the country due to the regular earthquakes that occur in the north and northeast of the nation, including the capital city of Kabul.
