Local governmetn officials in Nangarhar province said the militants were killed on Wednesday morning in Chaparhar district.
Provincial governor spokesman, Ahmad Zia Abdulzai said the militants were targeted while they were planting improvised explosive device (IED).
Abdulzai further added that no civilian casualties were reported following the airstrike.
The anti-government armed militant groups including the Taliban militants have not commented regarding the report so far.
Nangarhar is among the relatively volatile provinces in eastern Afghanistan where anti-government armed militants are actively operating in a number of its districts and frequently carry out insurgency attacks.
