The 3-year-old girl who fell into a well, in the southern Afghan province of Helmand, was dragged up alive but died in the hospital, local Taliban government authorities said.

In the early hours of Wednesday, the 21st of September, a child in the Shani Jami village of the Nad Ali district in Helmand southern province of Afghanistan fell into a deep well.

The child was rescued from the well alive, according to the Taliban authorities. However, she passed away in the hospital.

According to reports, the most recent girl who fell into a well in the province of Helmand was only 3 years old.

The girl was pulled up from the well by the rescue crews after the Taliban officials said she was still alive; however, she passed away in the hospital.

In the Kajaki district of the southern Afghan province of Helmand, a small girl died earlier this week after falling 50 meters into a well.

According to the Taliban Ministry of Defense, a rescue team from the ministry was flown to Helmand to save the child after he fell into a well there.

People have fallen down wells in the Afghan provinces of Kandahar and Zabul, among others, with children constituting the majority of the deaths.

The Taliban’s acting interior minister, Sirajuddin Haqqani, had earlier directed governors and district governors to locate open wells and take the necessary safety procedures in light of the tragic cases of people falling and the devastating drought that has devastated Afghanistan.
