A riot in a high-security prison in Tajikistan has left dozens of people dead including convicted ISIS prisoners and prison security guards, it has been reported.
The Ministry of Justice of Tajikistan announced earlier today that the riot broke out late on Sunday inside a prison in the city of Vakhdat.
According to a statement released by Ministry of Justice of Tajikistan, convicted ISIS prisoners killed three security guards and five fellow prisoners.
The statement further added that 24 inmates were also killed after security forces launched an operation to restore order in the prison.
The ministry has also added that Bekhruz Gulmurod, the son of Gulmurod Khaliov was among those killed. Khalimov was a senior special forces colonel before defecting to ISIS in 2015 and was later killed in Syria.
