“I ask the traders to stop smuggling. Those who smuggle medicines in bags should stop doing so for the sake of Allah. Have mercy over these people,” Abdul bari Omar said.
He added that 70% of drug smuggling in the country had been stopped, but 30% is still going on, which they are working to prevent.
Said Noor Pacha, a spokesman of the Association of Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Companies, stated that 810 different types of medications are now produced domestically, with investments totalling 320 million dollars.
A representative from a pharmaceutical company said that although Afghanistan is self-sufficient in quantity and quality of 15% of medications and 5,000 people are employed in pharmaceutical factories, low-quality foreign drugs have interrupted manufacturing.
630 different types of pharmaceuticals are currently produced in the country. The expo participants also urged the de facto authorities to seriously assist them in freeing Afghanistan from its reliance on imported medicines.
